Symonds House is a spacious and modern residential home in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, supporting 20 disabled adults. Surrounded by wonderful views of the local countryside, our home is close to shops, pubs and cafes. You’ll find good transport connections to London, Stevenage, Peterborough, and Cambridge. Live here and you’ll be supported to be independent, healthy and active.

How to get here

We’re based in Hitchin, and you’ll find transport links from the town centre. From Hitchin station, it is a 27-minute Thameslink train to London and you can also travel to or other surrounding areas. If you prefer to drive, we are very close to the A602 and A505.  

Who We Support

We deliver person-centred care for disabled adults with a range of different needs, so people can live life as they choose. You’ll find an environment where everyone’s personal preferences and wishes are understood and respected. Our purpose-built home is fully accessible. 

We know that people’s conditions are just one part of their lives, affecting people in different ways. In case it is useful for prospective residents to know, we support people with a wide range of conditions including:

  • Learning disabilities  
  • Dravet syndrome (a form of epilepsy) 
  • Cerebral palsy  
  • ADHD  
  • Autism  

What support we provide

Our professional experienced team ensures that all our residents receive high-quality support. We have a friendly and environment where people can get the help they need to live their lives to the full. Here are just a few examples of the support we provide to residents.   

  • Personal care 
  • Assistance with activities in and out of service 
  • Assistance with trips out exploring the local community 
  • Assistance with eating and drinking  
  • Mobility assistance (including transfers with hoists where required) 
  • Behavioural management  
  • Physiotherapy 
  • Specialist and person-centred care, liaising with external professionals.  

 

What activities are available

At Symonds House, we pride ourselves on delivering engaging activities for our residents. There's something for everyone. Whether you want to set up individual activities or take part in group activities, our team will work with you to make sure your needs are met. Below are some examples of activities we offer.  

  • Dancing sessions (including wheelchair dancing sessions) for residents that enjoy moving around and listening to music.   
  • Cooking sessions: for residents that enjoy cooking and want to build independence  
  • Arts and craft sessions  
  • Coffee mornings.  
  • Shopping trips  
  • Planned individual holidays: for those who want to take a nice break or a long weekend.
