Fethneys is a residential care service for 10 disabled adults in Worthing, West Sussex. We provide person-centred support so people can live lives as they choose. We’re close to the beach, as well as a variety of local shops, pubs and restaurants.

How to get here
We’re near the centre of Worthing and Brighton is less than half an hour away. There are excellent transport links by bus and train, which residents often use.
Who we support
At Fethneys we support young adults with physical conditions to live life as they choose. At present all our tenants are wheelchair users who have cerebral palsy, and they are all under 40.
Our building is fully wheelchair accessible, with ceiling track hoists and a lift. Every room has an en suite bathroom with a level access shower. We also have a separate bathroom with a large, accessible Gainsborough bath.
Each individual has a person-centred plan so that their needs, preferences and goals are understood and respected.
What support we provide
At Fethneys we support with all personal care (washing, dressing and all hygiene tasks) and we help people to live as independently as possible.
People like to build independence skills – including budgeting and dealing with bills, meal planning and preparing food. Consequently, residents can do as much as possible for themselves and learn valuable skills for the future.
What activities are available
Fethneys is close to Worthing town centre. Residents often drive in their powerchairs to where they want to go, supported by staff where necessary. As well as trips to the seafront people enjoy going to the shops, cafés and restaurants. They also like swimming, bowling, singing classes and choir groups.
People travel by local community transport such as Dial-a-Ride, or more often public transport. People choose to get the bus to local places or take the train to Brighton, which is just half an hour away. Sometimes people travel to London – with a journey time of roughly an hour and a half (or less by train).
Sometimes residents just like to relax with a movie at Fethneys. The garden, which will be redeveloped in 2024, has its own barbecue and pizza oven. So people like to have meals outside in warm weather.
I really like the amount of independence we have. I can access the community independently. I go out on my own or with a staff member to local shops and cafes. There’s also easy access to public transport to see my family or friends. The atmosphere at Fethneys is always friendly. Staff all want to help and support us and no task is too much for them. We are encouraged to do as much as we can for ourselves, with support if needed.

I’ll return to college this year, where I’m studying Travel and Tourism. I’ll get support from Fethneys staff to attend the course and obtain my qualification, which is very reassuring for me.
