Essie has often spent Christmas all alone, just flicking through the TV channels and wishing the hours away. Until a few years ago, she had a busy job as a carer and would get out and meet people.

But then, she developed diabetes and arthritis, forcing her to retire, spend more time at home and lose the everyday social interaction she loved.

‘Randall Close saved my life. It’s like another home. When I go to bed at night, I can’t wait for morning, so I can come back’ – Essie.

Thankfully, that changed when Essie come to Randall Close, a Leonard Cheshire centre. She was on a six-week exercise programme to help with her movement and mobility.

We could tell she was lonely and needed emotional, as well as physical support, so arranged for her to keep coming. These days her visits are the highlight of her week, giving her something to look forward to and a real sense of purpose.

With us she can be sure of a warm welcome, a chat with her friends and a busy schedule of activities to join in with.

We work across the UK delivering care services and programmes. We have volunteering opportunities and events you can get involved in too. We also deliver programmes internationally around work, education and youth advocacy.
