Relaunch is a hub of activity
A relaunch for an all-ability Activity Hub in Gloucestershire has been hailed a resounding success by the organising partners.
Held at the Oasis Centre in Cheltenham on 22 January the event saw 115 attendees take on powerchair football, mixed ability cricket, all-ability dance and arts and crafts activities.
Emma Lancett, Area Enablement Officer for leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire said:
‘We work in close partnership with community organisations in the county to ‘open doors’ to inclusion – supporting people of all abilities to participate in activities that allow them to be actively involved in their community.
‘The Activity Hub sees barriers to inclusion broken down through social interaction and the pure pleasure of taking part in fun and engaging activities. It also presents a great opportunity for friends to be reunited and for new friendships to form as well.’
Activity Hub partners include:
- Leonard Cheshire
- Inclusion Gloucestershire
- Cheltenham Borough Homes
- Cheltenham Borough Council
- Goals Beyond Grass
- West Oxfordshire Wheelchair Dance
- Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust
- Gloucestershire Cricket Board
Emma went on to add:
‘The project would not be possible without the invaluable support and funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, who attended the day and saw at first-hand how resources benefit individuals directly.
‘We are also immensely grateful to Tesco for providing much needed refreshments which kept our energy levels sustained throughout the afternoon!’
Funding is available to run further Activity Hubs over the next six months and the partnership is looking to plan beyond this.
Other activities will be on the programme over time. For more information about the Activity Hub go to our Facebook page.
