Reaction to mini-budget
Our Director of Policy, Gemma Hope, reacts to today’s mini-budget, where Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a £30bn package to save jobs.
In reaction to the mini-budget on 8 July 2020, our Director of Policy, Gemma Hope said:
“Despite measures such as the Kickstart scheme and the investment in DWP funded programmes supporting people back into work, the government has again failed to set out how they plan to create and protect the jobs of disabled people.
"Furthermore, social security, including permanent improvements to Statutory Sick Pay and increases to the Employment Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payments should adequately meet the living costs faced by disabled people which have escalated during the pandemic.
"If we are to truly build back better, the government must renew their commitment on closing the disability employment gap with a jobs strategy that supports disabled people into work.”
