Reaction: The latest on brexit
Joint statement by Co-Chairs of the Disability Charities Consortium reacting to statement that no disability minister will be appointed until Brexit is resolved
In response to the statement that no disability minister will be appointed until Brexit is resolved, Neil Heslop, CEO of Leonard Cheshire and Mark Lever, CEO of the National Autistic Society, Co-Chairs of the Disability Charities Consortium, said:
‘Many disabled people already feel that this government is not listening to their needs and that they have been side-lined from key policy decisions that affect their daily lives.
‘Ill-conceived welfare reforms have been devastating for disabled people in the UK.
‘With long-term social care funding plans that are fit for purpose still nowhere in sight, the appointment of a Minister to champion the needs of disabled people at the heart of Government must be prioritised.
‘Disabled people will rightly be angry that once again they have been forgotten, this time because the politics of Westminster are in Brexit meltdown.’
