The leading disability charity has received £45,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund. This will support two volunteer coordinators in Wales and the recruitment of 160 volunteers to help combat isolation among disabled people during the pandemic.

Leonard Cheshire already has a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to run Can Do Wales, its project to improve young disabled people’s skills in Cardiff, Newport, Wrexham and Swansea.

This additional money will mean the charity can meet the costs of its response to the situation.

Glyn Meredith, Director of Leonard Cheshire Cymru, said:

“Like most charities, our income is down and our operating costs are up. The people we care for need the support of their communities more than ever.”

Over the next six months, The National Lottery Community Fund are prioritising grant application for community activity related to COVID-19. To find out more visit: www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/wales

Leonard Cheshire will be marking Volunteer’s Week from 1-7 June, celebrating its 9,000 volunteers across the country.
