Make your garden bloom with Mark Lane

Spring is when people often wake up to the potential of their own patch and my job, as always, is to simply suggest that ability is secondary, gardening is for everyone and if I can do it, so can you.
Mark Lane
Mark Lane, Leonard Cheshire’s Global Ambassador for Gardening and Wellbeing, will present a unique event at Hever Castle in Edenbridge, Kent, on Thursday 30 April.
‘How I created my garden and how you can too’ will see the award-winning garden designer, BBC TV Gardeners’ World presenter and writer reveal how he transformed his own outdoor space in Kent to local enthusiasts.
Mark will spill the beans on his favourite plants, planting combinations, tips on wildlife and cut flowers, plus how to create seasonal interest using pots. The April event will be set against the magnificent backdrop of Hever Castle, world-famous for its Grade One listed gardens, designed by William Waldorf Astor.
The event is part of the charity’s commitment to supporting everyone, whatever their disability, to live, learn and work.
Mark, who lives near Canterbury, is relishing the prospect of presenting practical tips in surroundings alive with horticultural history.
‘I’ve always loved Hever Castle and it’s hard to imagine a more fitting stage to celebrate the joy of gardening. Spring is when people often wake up to the potential of their own patch and my job, as always, is to simply suggest that ability is secondary, gardening is for everyone and if I can do it, so can you.’

About Mark Lane
Mark is the UK’s first garden designer/BBC gardening broadcaster to be in a wheelchair. He is a regular presenter on BBC TV Gardeners’ World and fronts BBC TV coverage of the RHS shows. Mark is also a published garden writer.
Mark was in a car accident in 2001 and had to have operations on his spine, which were complicated by him being born with spina bifida. Following a long rehabilitation period, when he was ‘re-built’ both physically and mentally, he switched professions to study garden/landscape design and launched his own award-winning garden design and landscape practice.
