Kent legal firms support new free wills service
Solicitors in Kent are backing a new free wills service offered by leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire.
The international charity runs residential care, supported living and specialist services for disabled people in Kent. This includes St Cecilia’s residential home in Bromley, which supports up to 30 disabled adults.
People can sign up for a free will with participating solicitors. The service, developed through the charity’s partnership with Farewill and the National Free Wills Network, gives people a free opportunity to ensure they support people and causes they love, including Leonard Cheshire.
Pat, together with her husband Barry, volunteered for over 10 years at St Cecilia’s. The couple took up the free will offer, having seen the positive impact of the charity on the lives of people they support.
Pat said:
“When I heard about the service, I thought it was a brilliant idea. Making a will is so important, and ours really needed updating. The whole process was so simple. We were put in touch with a really lovely local solicitor near us in Sidcup, who was very helpful and gave lots of handy tips and advice.”
In February 2020 Barry was diagnosed with a life-changing neurological condition, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Barry’s condition led Pat to feel even more glad that they could take advantage of Leonard Cheshire’s free will service.
Pat added: “I would urge anyone to take up the offer. You never know what’s around the corner. If everything is in place, you’ll have peace of mind.”
Anyone can use Leonard Cheshire’s free will service, either online in as little as 30 minutes, by telephone, or face to face with their local solicitors. While there is no obligation to leave a gift in their will to Leonard Cheshire, gifts of all sizes will support future generations of disabled people to gain qualifications, find jobs and live as independently as possible.
