Disabled people's benefits have been wrongly taken away

Neil Heslop responds to more than 4,500 disabled people were wrongly stripped of their benefits.

In response to DWP admitting more than 4,500 disabled people were wrongly stripped of their benefits, our chief executive, Neil Heslop, said:

‘These alarming figures today are just the tip of the iceberg. At Leonard Cheshire, we’re acutely aware that huge numbers of disabled people are facing lengthy and stressful appeal processes just to get the assistance that they are entitled to — and need.

‘We can only hope that back payments to people who have lost out are sent through as a matter of urgency, and that these same mistakes, which penalise some of the most vulnerable people in society, are never allowed to happen again.’
