Cheltenham firm supports local Leonard Cheshire home with vital protective equipment

Staff at a Leonard Cheshire home for disabled adults in Cheltenham have expressed huge thanks to local firm Cotswold Scrubs for a vital donation of PPE.

Gloucestershire House, run by leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire, received around 200 ‘scrubs’ – the crucial protective gowns worn by medical professionals and care workers. The home supports 36 disabled adults.

The donation came about after a chance phone call from Cotswold Scrubs, formed in April by a group of local Cheltenham companies pooling their resources to help fight the pandemic.

The group’s co-founder Dave Hughes, whose regular role is managing Cotswold Curtains, lost his cousin to coronavirus and wanted to do something to make a difference. A host of volunteers, including students and experienced tailors, help make the protective equipment. The team continues to make scrubs of all sizes.

Grace Clawley, Deputy Manager at Gloucestershire House, said:

“We want to say a massive thank you to everyone involved. It’s made a huge difference to our staff at this challenging time.

"Residents have said they feel safer knowing we have these scrubs. They are beautifully made too, in various colours and patterns. We are so grateful to all of the kind, generous people donating fabric and giving up their own time to help us.”

Leonard Cheshire runs care homes, supported living facilities and services for disabled people across the UK. During this time PPE is vital to help protect staff, their families and residents from the coronavirus. At the moment Leonard Cheshire is spending £400,000 on PPE each month.
