Charity Fundraiser is icing on the cake for Siân Welby

Siân, who currently presents an evening show on Heart Radio, visited one of the charity’s day centres at Randall Close in Wandsworth, south London yesterday, to film a promotion on the initiative. 

Siân has close ties with Randall Close, and often visits the centre which offers disabled people the chance to socialise, engage in a range of activities and become more independent. 

She said:

‘I’ve been coming to Randall Close for over five years because it’s such a nice place to be.

‘It’s changed my perceptions of disability, it feels like coming into a club, everyone gets on and is always having a laugh and that’s down to the people that run it; William and Frank.’

She’s also keen to participate in Give and Bake:

‘As a kid I loved baking and it’s a sociable, fun thing.  I love banana cake – and Victoria sponge!’

Councillor Jane Cooper, The Mayor of Wandsworth, was also in attendance and added:

‘I’ve been a regular visitor here for the last ten years because they do such great work in our borough for disabled people through their rehabilitation and enablement programme.

‘I’ve seen people learn to walk again in the years I’ve been coming here, it’s been extraordinary.’

The Give and Bake fundraiser encourages members of the public to host a tea-party to fundraise for disabled people in their community.

Funds raised from the bake sales will help disabled people to live as independent a life as they choose, going towards essential mobility equipment, communication aids and skills training.
