Carmarthen curtain call for disabled dancers

Wales’ first fully inclusive dance event — Strictly Cymru — is set to hit Carmarthen for its third dance-off.

This will be third of six regional heats, as the competition for disabled dancers makes its way across Wales for the second year running. Competitors will go head-to-head on the 18 and 19 February at Laser Station Carmarthen, with hopes of making it to the grand final on 11 May 2019.

The previous two regional heats have seen participants take on everything from fifties swing moves to hip hop. 

Sion Huw Jones, who took part in these, said:

‘I’m really excited to be dancing in the final and really happy to be doing it with my friends in a group.

‘Thank you to Leonard Cheshire and the judges for believing in me.’

Sarah Thornton said:

‘I really enjoyed taking part for the second year and am looking forward to dancing with my friends for the final.

‘I love to dance and really like Strictly Cymru.’

Organised by the leading disability charity, Leonard Cheshire, Strictly Cymru invites disabled dancers from across the country to take part and show off their talent.

The event is pan disability and aims to improve health, wellbeing and access to sport for disabled people across Wales. 

This follows the success of last year’s competition, where participants reported significant improvements in their wellbeing as a result of taking part.
