Staff at Greenhill House, run by leading disability charity Leonard Cheshire, received 200 protective face visors on Friday from independent senior school Prior Park College. The college used a 3D printer to make the visors for care workers at the home, which supports 38 disabled adults.

Ann Birtwistle, Volunteer Coordinator at Greenhill House, said:

“We are overwhelmed by Prior Park College’s kindness and generosity. Thank you so much. Protective equipment is crucial for us, and never more so than at the current time.”

Leonard Cheshire runs care homes, supported living facilities and services for disabled people across the UK. During this time, PPE is vital to help protect staff, their families and residents from the coronavirus. At the moment Leonard Cheshire is spending £400,000 on PPE each month, with the figure expected to rise significantly.

Prior Park College has made over 7,500 masks since starting production on 1 April. The college distributed them to hospitals, pharmacies and GP surgeries in Bath, as well as sending supplies nationwide from Plymouth to Manchester. Last week the college’s Design and Technology department responded to a local call from Greenhill House.

Rob Faulkner, Head of Design and Technology at Prior Park College, said:

“We are delighted to support Leonard Cheshire and continue our links with Greenhill House. We continue to manufacture visors even though we are back at school and teaching remotely.

"We just want to do all we can to help out during this crisis.”

Ann Birtwistle added:

"We at Greenhill are very proud of our longstanding connections with the college.

"We’ve hosted regular student volunteer placements, where students help out with activities. Staff and residents look forward to welcoming them back after lockdown.”

Hugh Fenn, executive director UK services at Leonard Cheshire, commented:

“Protecting our frontline care workers and residents is our number one priority, with continuous need for more PPE posing a challenge for the entire care sector. The huge efforts of Prior Park College are massively appreciated.”

Protect our carers with PPE

We are doing all we can to stop the spread of coronavirus, save lives and keep people safe. More equipment to protect our carers is urgently needed.
