Birnbeck House is home for up to 13 adults with complex learning disabilities. We are in Weston-super-Mare, close to the beach and the town centre. Some rooms have sea views and we have lovely gardens to enjoy. Birnbeck offers high-quality residential care so that people can live their lives to the full.

How to get here
Birnbeck House is close to the centre of Weston-super-Mare, with excellent bus and train links. Reaching Birnbeck and the nearby services is hassle-free.
Birnbeck's management team runs other linked services for people with less complex needs. Quantock House is a residential service very close to Birnbeck. It is home for up to six adults with learning disabilities. Bennett Court in Nailsea provides supported living for up to 12 adults with learning disabilities.
Who we support
We deliver person-centred care for disabled adults, respecting each individual’s personal preferences and wishes.
People living at Birnbeck have various moderate and severe learning disabilities along with other conditions. We assist everyone to live life to the full.
We currently support people with a range of conditions, including but not limited to:
- various learning disabilities including Downs Syndrome
- cerebral palsy
- epilepsy
- autism
- dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
- sensory impairments
The people currently living at Birnbeck House are ambulant or use manual wheelchairs. There is wheelchair access to the downstairs dining room, lounge, bedroom and bathrooms, as well as the Team Leader’s Office. The entire building does not have full wheelchair access and the upper floor would not suit powerchair users. However, the building does meet the needs and preferences of everyone living here.
What support we provide
Our committed and friendly staff help everyone with all forms of personal care. Everyone has their own person-centred plan (PCP) and their own communication passports. We support people to do the things they like to do.
What activities are available
We have good transport links. We have wheelchair-accessible minibuses shared between Birnbeck and Quantock. This helps everyone travel to activities, visits and appointments.
Residents love trips to the seaside, with its arcades and Grand Pier. Residents also enjoy going to the bowling alley, as well as to shops and restaurants nearby restaurants. They often want to go for coffee in the local park. They love attending a weekly social club and the Proud Bar - a nightclub for people with learning disabilities.
At home, people love spending time in the garden. Residents can also take part in a range of in-house activities for both individuals and groups. These include monthly art sessions, in which a local artist invites everyone to take part in a collective artwork.
